Woodbine Cares Week is a week-long celebration of the many valuable community organizations and causes that Woodbine Entertainment supports as a strong community partner, which contribute so much to the life, health, and vibrancy of our neighbourhoods.

Congratulations to the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation for taking home the first place prize of $7,500 for the Woodbine Cares Week Charity Challenge.

The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation supports many local community organizations in Milton​ focusing on underprivileged youth, cultural diversity, and healthcare. The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation will use the donation to support their Miracle on Mainstreet toy drive to suppor​t patients admitted over the Christmas holidays at SickKids and McMaster Children’s hospital as well as supporting children via Halton Women’s Place and the Salvation Army.

 Second Place WegCares  

The Charity Challenge runner-up was Horizons for Youth winning a $2500 donation from Woodbine Entertainment. Horizons for youth, located in a high-priority neighborhood near Caledonia & Eglinton, shelters approximately 1,100 youth annually. Their mission is “To shelter, prepare and guide homeless and at-risk youth to be contributing community members.”

Albion Neighbourhood Services Boys & Girls Club


Albion Neighbourhood Services (ANS) works in partnership with the community to enhance peoples’ lives through the delivery of programs, such as The Boys & Girls Club which strives to nurture confidence in children and youth (age 6-21), provide opportunities to develop and practice leadership skills, participate in civil society and empower individuals to support and influence their community. WEG has been a proud supporter of the Albion Neighbourhood Services Boys & Girls Club Summer Camp since 2011.

Arts Etobicoke


Established in 1973, Arts Etobicoke is a community arts service organization with the mission to support local artists and develop accessible, high-quality arts experiences for the community. Arts Etobicoke believes that everyone should have access to art and offers a safe, inviting, and respectful creative home for community members of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. WEG supports Arts Etobicoke through its North Etobicoke Programming which provides programming for a variety of local Rexdale youth and organizations. WEG is also involved in the “Artful Palate” by providing creations by the WEG chefs.

Community Association for Riders with Disabilities (CARD)


Incorporated in 1969, CARD provides therapy in the fields of cognitive therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation, medicine and adapted sport. CARD’s therapeutic horseback riding program benefits riders who seek physical or cognitive therapies, and who may have a variety of disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis.Though this longstanding partnership, WEG has supported CARD in many ways. This year WEG supported CARD’s “Mini Royal” a horse show open to all CARD riders.

Conservation Halton Foundation


Conservation Halton works to protect, restore and manage natural resources in your watershed from lake to escarpment. Their vision is to sustain a healthy watershed with clean streams, vigorous forests, abundant green space and balanced growth that results in strong livable communities.WEG’s contribution to the Conservation Halton Foundation has helped purchase and permanently conserve 25 acres of natural land in north Burlington that provides habitat for many species and links to the Bruce Trail, build the new Deer Clan longhouse at Crawford Lake Conservation Area, support the Halton Conservation Stewardship Program, and teach over 5,000 Halton-area students about the importance of forests and waterways in the community.

Halton Learning Foundation


The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) helps eliminate financial barriers to education for students of the Halton District School Board, ensuring all kids have equal opportunities to fit in and be successful in school. Students facing emergency or extraordinary financial challenges can receive immediate financial support for clothing, shoes, lunches, school supplies or learning opportunities such as field trips and co-op placements. Woodbine Entertainment has supported the Halton Learning Foundation for many years as a sponsor of their annual golf tournament.

Halton Women’s Place


Halton Women’s Place is an organization providing shelter and crisis services for physically, emotionally, financially and sexually abused women and their dependent children and is dedicated to ending violence against women and their children. WEG’s long-term relationship with Halton Women’s Place began in 2000 with the support of the shelter’s Safe Shelter Program.

Horizons for Youth, located in a high-priority neighbourhood near Caledonia & Eglinton, shelters approximately 1,100 youth annually. Established in 1989, their mission is "To shelter, prepare and guide homeless and at-risk youth to be contributing community members." WEG has assisted with the Horizons for Youth by providing meals created in-house by WEG chefs since 2009.

LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society


LongRun fosters, rehabilitates and finds loving adoptive homes and alternative careers for thoroughbreds as event or pleasure horses and companion animals. The Society also endeavours to educate the Ontario thoroughbred racing community, as well as the public, about these alternatives.WEG has a longstanding partnership with LongRun where a mandatory contribution for retired race horses is funded through WEG purse accounts.

Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society


The Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society assists in the adoption and relocation of retired and non-racing Standardbred horses within Ontario by providing programming that educates and assists in the retraining and management of horses and facilitates long-term, mutually-beneficial placements.WEG has a longstanding partnership with OSAS where a mandatory contribution for retired race horses is funded through WEG purse accounts.

Racetrack Chaplaincy of Canada (RTCC)
The RTCC strives to address the many needs of the thoroughbred racing community, both spiritually and practically, by providing support, aid, guidance and even just a friendly ear to listen. Through initiatives like educational programs and holiday celebrations, RTCC is building a sense of community that can grow and flourish.Woodbine Racetrack hosts the Jake Howard Centre which is the home of the Chaplaincy on Woodbine’s backstretch. The Jake houses a learning center, library, offices, and a clothing depot and is used by a number of backstretch workers. WEG is proud to have a community hub such as this to support those who are dedicated to the industry.

Standardbred Chaplaincy – Stable that God Loves


A certified Canadian non-profit charity dedicated to providing, with excellence, for the spiritual, emotional, physical, and social needs of horse racing's workforce. Through our Standardbred Racing product, the "Stable that God Loves", a major fundraising program for the SRTCC has brought together owners for the racing season through an initiative that asks participants to donate a small percentage of the purse earning of one (or two) of their horses to the Chaplaincy on a continuing basis through the racing season.

Rethink Breast Cancer


Rethink Breast Cancer reaches out to young people concerned about and affected by breast cancer, fostering a new generation of young and influential breast cancer supporters and responding to the unique needs of young women. By taking a breakthrough approach to education, support, advocacy and fundraising, Rethink Breast Cancer is thinking differently about how to beat breast cancer.Rethink is the inaugural charitable partner for the Queen’s Plate where one dollar from every ticket sold is donated back to Rethink.

Trust15


Trust 15 is a not-for-profit organization that provides inner city youth in the Rexdale/North Etobicoke area with programs that promote and facilitate positive behaviour, creative expression, and cooperative working skills. Trust 15 offers 'at risk' kids in their community the social and educational tools necessary to succeed in society by way of mentoring and positive role model intervention.WEG is proud of the growth that Trust15 has seen in the past year. WEG employee volunteers act as mentors & coaches for the youth.

Founded by Tiger Jeet Singh and his son Tiger Jr., the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation supports many local community organizations focusing on underprivileged youth, cultural diversity, and healthcare. Some charities supported by the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation include: Halton Women’s Place, the Salvation Army, the Hospital for Sick Children, McMaster Children’s Hospital, and the Halton Learning Foundation. Woodbine Entertainment is proud to partner with the Tiger Jeet Singh foundation and the charities in which it contributes.
