What's New for 2005 June 18, 2005 As part of Champion’s commitment to and support of the Greater Toronto Asian community, we sponsored a boat at this year’s Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival. A fast growing sport, Dragon Boat racing is taking Canada, and the world, by storm. Almost every major city in Canada hosts their own race festival. The Urban Canoe Club’s “Shogun Warriors” carried the Champions name through the water this year. Established in 1996, the club has already won three championships in their brief history. Their mission is to create a competitive team and spirit that embodies sportsmanship, social integration and involvement in community services while forming new relationships through the sport of Dragon Boat racing. They partake in numerous charitable events every year. They have already started training and we’ll keep you up-to-date with their progress. Manager Stephen Blackburn has forwarded some photos of their pool practices. Once they hit Lake Ontario (who knows when that might be!) we’ll get some great live shots of the Shogun Warriors in action as they head for a Champion’s championship.
