Career
  • The veteran driver has earned over $2 million consecutively since 1998.
  • The year 2011 proved to be a successful one as the Milton resident celebrated a career year in the earnings column as he amassed $6,343,341 in purse earnings. He also finished second on the WEG circuit behind Jody Jamieson with 234 wins.
  • In the closing months of 2011, Filion became the regular pilot behind Sparky Mark who earned $216,250 that season. The son of Astreos closed out his season with seven-straight victories including five in the $38,000 Preferred event.
  • On November 12, 2011, Filion guided Prestidigitator to victory in the $300,000 OSS Super Final for trainer Dustin Jones. The son of Kadabra banked $320,672 that season including a fourth-place finish in the Breeders Crown.
  • In 2011, Filion was the regular pilot behind Rebeka Bayama who captured multiple Fillies & Mares Open events on the WEG circuit and earned $188,400 that year. The bay mare is trained by Filion’s brother, Justin, and owns by his father, Yves.
  • A major highlight in Filion's career came in the 2001 Breeders Crown aboard Goliath Bayama. That son of Abercrombie retired with career earnings over $1.6 million with a 1:48.1 record. Trained by his father Yves, Goliath Bayama captured multiple stakes events, including the $400,000 Free For All Stakes at Mohawk, $250,000 Prix D’Automne, $100,000 Burlington Stakes and North America Cup elimination.
  • In 2001, what was then a career year, Filion steered Ring Of Life to a $531,000 Confederation Cup victory and Goliath Bayama to the aforementioned $500,000 Breeders Crown score. He earned more than $5.8 million in purses that year with 463 winners.
  • Another notable moment in Filion's career came in the 1999 World Driving Championship in Australia. Filion followed in his uncle Herve's footsteps and became the second Canadian-born driver to win the event. Herve won the inaugural event in 1970.
  • Filion, a native of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil, Quebec, had a brief stint in Ontario when he relocated in the summer of 1998, but then returned home in 2000.
  • Sylvain Filion hails from one of the most decorated harness racing families in the sport. His father, Yves, trained and drove 1988 North America Cup winner, Runnymede Lobell, while his uncle, Herve, is a Hall of Fame horseman.
