Career
  • In 2014, Zeron surpassed $4 million in earnings for the 17th consecutive year.
  • On June 11, 2012, Zeron celebrated the 7,500th win of his driving career at Mohawk. The veteran reinsman guided Zeus Lightning to victory.
  • On February 16, 2012, Zeron was inducted into the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame.
  • 2011 marked the 10th consecutive year that Zeron has earned in excess of $5 million in purses.
  • As a trainer, Zeron celebrated a career year in 2011 with $2,325,694 in earnings.
  • In 2011, Zeron’s trainee Lady Rainbow had a solid sophomore year banking $587,627 in seasonal earnings even though she only found the winner’s circle once in the $233,400 Moni Maker at The Meadows. Lady Rainbow’s lucrative campaign was also due to five second-place finishes.  Zeron and Lady Rainbow were the runners-up in the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks, $237,714 Hudson Filly Trot, $204,626 Simcoe Stakes, $121,500 American National Stakes and was third, placed second in the $519,000 Elegantimage Final.
  • Also in 2011, Zeron’s other stable star, Peach Martini, earned $290,963, but $221,000 of that was from participating in the OSS program. The three-year-old miss took home two OSS Gold Final trophies.
  • Zeron was involved in an on-track incident on October 8, 2011 at Woodbine, where he was dumped from the sulky. The veteran horseman was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a concussion and torn left rotator cuff. Zeron returned to the racebike on November 24th, a month and a half later.
  • In 2010, Zeron earned his first O’Brien Award for Horsemanship after being a finalist in 2009.
  • Zeron’s star pupils, Lady Rainbow and Peach Martini, earned over $200,000 in their 2010 freshman campaigns. Lady Rainbow ($212,989) captured back-to-back stakes victories in the Bluegrass Stakes and International Stallion Stakes in Lexington, Kentucky. Peach Martini ($296,356) scored victories in four O.S.S. Gold eliminations before capturing her first $130,000 O.S.S. Gold Final at Woodbine. She capped off her freshman campaign with a second-place finish in the $300,000 O.S.S. Super Final. She was also a finalist for a 2010 O’Brien Award in her respective division.
  • On January 15, 2010, Zeron won his 7000th career driving win aboard On My Tab who went wire-to-wire for the victory.
  • Zeron surpassed the $70 million mark in earnings at the end of July, 2007, celebrating the milestone at Mohawk.
  • Zeron urged Spare Time Rozie to tie the Canadian record for aged trotting mares (1:52.1) at Mohawk Racetrack in July, 2007 matching the mark set by Peaceful Way in 2005.
  • In 2006, he notched his 6,000th career driving win aboard Star Bonus A on August 21 at Mohawk
  • Also in 2006, drove In Trepid Water to a WEG Award as the circuit’s Three-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year, and piloted Snazzy Millie at Solvalla, Sweden in the Elitlopp, one of Europe’s most prestigious trotting events.
  • In 2005, Zeron was the regular driver of Majestic Son and captured a division of the Champlain Stakes and an O.S.S. Super Final with the future O’Brien Award winner.
  • He reached a major career milestone early in 2003 (January 5) with his 5,000th career win aboard Golden Dol, and was later honoured along with other drivers in a special commemorative ring ceremony in June at Woodbine.
  • Wild Turkey, a flashy Illinois-bred trotter, also flourished under the Zeron banner and captured the 2000 Horsemen’s Trotting Series.
  • Zeron acquired a previously unknown trotter in Hanko Angus in late 1997 and turned the horse from a $20,000 claimer into one of North America’s top Free For All performers before retiring as a career millionaire. His biggest victory came in the 1998 Maple Leaf Trot.
  • Zeron also piloted Canada’s 1997 two-year-old pacing filly of the year, Armbro Rosebud.
  • Zeron was the top driver in Montreal for almost a decade (nine titles) prior to moving to Ontario in 1995.
  • The Ottawa native was nicknamed “The Whip” in Montreal because of his habit of tossing his whip to fans after a victory.
  • His first win was with Oxford Mary in 1975 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
  • Zeron’s son Scott, was Canada’s leading driver in 2010 and 2011. The up-and-coming reinsman has quickly become a regular driver on the WEG circuit.
